How a clearance check works, and where the answers come from

What the calculator does with a medication, a dose and a time, and which rulebooks it reads.

ShowSafe Pro estimates when a medication should be past the detection or withdrawal times that governing bodies publish. Before your first check, read and accept the terms.

  1. Pick the rulebooks you compete under (for example USEF or FEI; HISA or ARCI for racing).
  2. Pick your horse, or choose "No horse" and type the doses. A horse's recorded doses and weight are used automatically.
  3. Pick the show, or the time your horse competes. Leave both empty to see when each medication clears from now.
  4. Add each dose: the medication, when it was given, the dose in mg and the route. Enter your horse's weight so the dose can be compared with the dose that was studied.
  5. Tap Check clearance. ShowSafe Pro shows the time each rulebook publishes and the date and time your horse should clear. Tap Save to keep a record under Saved checks.

Use Plan a dose to see the latest time a medication can be given before a show.

Every answer shows its source. Each result names the document it comes from, with the page, and links to it. ShowSafe Pro links to the governing bodies' own documents; it does not replace them.

When there is no answer. If a rulebook does not list the medication, or has no published time for that dose or route, ShowSafe Pro shows Unknown — ask your vet instead of guessing. If the dose is above the dose that was studied, it adds extra time based on the published half-life and marks the result as a low-confidence estimate. If no half-life is published, it says to ask your vet.

Add a safety margin. In Clearance Settings (the sliders icon at the top right), enter a margin as a percentage, a number of hours, or both; the larger one is added to every published time. Enter who set it. Ask your veterinarian what margin to use. The rulebook and your veterinarian always have the final say.
